Smith Lettering is an over 30 year business producing quality hand lettered jobs ranging from antique restored vehicles to modern commercial truck lettering and signage.

As a teenager, Dennis Smith started lettering stock cars on the local dirt track circuit, primarily in the Reading, Pennsylvania & Flemington, New Jersey areas, in the late 1960’s.  Equipped with a set of brushes and a Speedball Lettering Book, Smith, an avid race fan, was drawn to the short tracks and enjoyed the way he could change the look of a race car.

In 1971, Smith graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and expanded his growing business, reaching into areas as far north as Albany, New York and as far south as Maryland.

Smith’s work has been seen on some of the most popular race cars for some of the most popular drivers including: Billy Pauch, David Van Horn, Ken Brenn, Eddie Marshall and even Mario Andretti.

Although Smith is known for the work he has done on race cars, local tradesman have also utilized his talent to create advertising pieces for their businesses; trucks and signage create the largest portion of Smith Lettering. As Smith’s business has developed his attention to detail and overall friendliness helped him maintain a wide base of client relationships, most of which have lasted for over 25 years.
